Default i have a standard V box hd (subscription). will a 2nd hand V+ HD box work?

hi

i have a standard V box hd which arrived this weekend. i was surprised to see only optical audio out. i am guessing that the larger V+ HD box has analogue phono audio outs (which i need), is this the case? if so could i get one on ebay, insert my viewing card and get my channels? i only subscribe to the basic channels and tbh would be happy with FTA as long as i get the BBC and ITV in HD.

if not i guess i would have to get a receiver with optical audio but would rather not. or is there perhaps a optical to phono converter box?

cheers

Unfortunately the cards are paired to the individual boxes so not really too much you can do with different boxes in this situation. You can get optical to phono converters but I think they are quite expensive. An alternative would probably simply be to tap the audio from the scart connector and use that. You can usually find scart leads with flying phono connectors.

thanks, thats sound like a great idea taking it from the scart - would never have thought of that.

what will the audio quality be like? same as if the audio was presenting at phono outs? assuming there were some

cheers

I'm sure I read somewhere that virgin would supply the old boxes to customers who needed the phono audio. The scart idea is probably better though since you'd get to keep the newer, smaller box.

Having been a faults agent for them for a while I can tell you that the only cables that you are able to receive from them are HDMI cables. They do not even allow for replacement scart cables any more. The response from the company about scart cables is to get the customer to try a different one and if the scart cable is faulty ask them to replace it and apply a credit of £2-00 to account. VM are also no longer supporting DVI cables or any external sound systems
