Default will my modem work in someone elses house?

i have 20 mb vermin connection with router. My m8 lives in same street if he had a fibre optic virgin connection would my modem and router work in his house

on over 30 years of playing with aerials satellites and cable right back to the days of redifusion, i have never seen a fiber optic in anyones house only coax
even the main boxs down the road coax so where are these optic fibers i keep reading about ???
