Default Where's the best place to get a EV5100USB STB from?

Is eBay a safe bet to buy a used EV5100USB STB from an area that has been hit or from someone like Lincsat (assuming he still does them)?

Cheers in advance.

Eurovox will not work on a n3 area dude.

only KV and starview boxes will work @ this moment in time.

dude I wouldnt go ahead and buy a new box when it could most likely only last for 2 months.

And yes the ex1100 will work in an N1 area.

save the money and get yourself a KVA780 and then that way when your area has gone to N3 u can then get your channels back.

Otherwise you could ask Lincsat and see if he has one and u can buy it off him

or just google the box model number and you should find one am sure.

Choice is yours!!!

So the Eurovoxes have more or less bit the dust in most areas except where N3 has not been completely phased in. If I could get an EX1100 cheap and it works for at least 2 months, am I then able to flash it back to the original firmware for receiving freeview and use its PVR function? Also can I flash a Max red back to its original firmware? I've read a lot of posts calling them "door stops" but are they really that useless if they can still be used as freeview boxes?

As stated above the box only has a DVB - C tuner in there and not a DVB T tuner.

C meaning for cable and T meaning for terrestrial

Now if when you do lose your premium channels... you will get the FTA channels... i.e BBC 1 etc etc etc as long as the box is plugged into there feed / network.

if you decide to cancel and they cut you off you will no longer to be able to use that box as a FTA as it wont work with your loft / roof Arieal or any other arial for that matter.

Quite frankly it doesnt make no difference what so ever if you decide to flash with a FTA firmware or not... I say this because if VM decide to encrypt the FTA channels then either way that FTA firmware will make no difference what so ever. The modded firmware was only released so that you are able to recieve the PPV channels like Sly sports etc etc.

With N3 being rolled out... the FTA firmware will be useless if they decide to change the Stream Encryption to 1841 (N3)... which in return would mean that FTA firmware will be usless as well, as it only works with 1800 stream (N1)

What that means is that keep the firmware that have on there and enjoy the last days of Free TV.

and if you still want FTA (Free to Air) channels then you will get them until they decide to change the streams on them from 1800 - 1841... Until then enjoy it.

When they decided to encrypt there FTA services you have 4 choices

1) keep there services and ask them to provide you with a STB... that way you will get the free channels... but will be liable to pay of course every month

2) buy a free view box from Argos and use your loft / roof arieal

3) if you have a LCD / LED / Plasma then you will have a freeview on the TV which u can just scan you will recieve around 30 channels via using your Loft ariel.

4) Finally you can buy a KV A780 which is much more reliable box and its a work around for the 1841 Stream (n3) Encryption. What this means is that you will get all the PPV channels as long as the box is connected to a Router with an active internet connection.

Hope this explains everything!!!

Cheers I see what you mean. I already have freeview built into the TV but I liked the idea of recording programmes onto a USB drive. I've read the posts on the Kryptview box and it seems to be a pretty decent replacement for the Eurovox although the modem and wireless router are downstairs so I would need an ethernet bridge for that.
