With Skys involvement, unless the contract is scrapped, I dont see RTE going
free to air(like here many politicians dont know the difference between FTV & FTA)

My understanding is that it will not be on Astra 2, but I might be wrong. Some mention was made of a new satellite due to be launched this year. I don't know any of the details though.

RTEs efforts with DTT have been a farce from start to finish in my opinion.

Like you, I'll believe they are FTA when I see it.

Some talk of a tight beam?, however time will tell, my neighbour from Kerry is excited about it, but she was excited about RTE Int, that went t..s up.

Looks like this may be happening soon. KA-SAT is to be launched in December and RTE will probably use this to broadcast 'Saorsat' (means Freesat in English) Ka-Sat still ready for launch | TechTir
