Default Problems with Vergin Media Contract

Hi guys,

I hope this is the right place to get advice on this matter.

I agreed a 12 month contract in January '09 for Broadband Services from Virgin media. After the 12 month contract was over I was stilll living in the property and was happy to keep it rolling.

From late '09 onwards I knew that I would be leaving the property at the end of June '10, and moving on to a residence where I would no longer need Virgin's services.

In February of 2010 I was offered a contract at a slightly improved price for Broadband , phone and tv. I had no need or desire for the phone or tv service, and I informed the guy on the phone of this. He told me that it didn't matter, they would send me the equipment and I could choose whether or not to use it, and I did indeed receive a TV box that I didn't use.

Virgin have now informed me that I verbally agreed to a 12 month contract extension when I agreed to receiving this. While I cannot recall the exact detail of the conversation there is no way in a million years I would have agreed a contract extension. I told them this and they say that I agreed to it, and I received a letter confirming the extension to the contract which I did not query.

I admit that there is every possibility I received this letter and thought it was a bill and did not read it. I am trying to find it.

So now I'm being told I have to cough up for 7 months which I will not use. I can pay them monthly or give them the whole lot up front.

Does anybody have any advice?
The one thing that is a cast-iron certainty is that I will never have agreed to extend my contract 12 months.

ty for reading, and if it's in the wrong place could I have it moved to the appropriate forum?

Thanks

Tell them you are moving house and unless they can provide a service at your new location then the contract has ended. They could try taking you to court but unless they can provide evidence of you accepting a contract then its doubtful it would proceed.

Did you explain your moving house ?

VM usually wont persue a contract where the client is physically moving location.

Just saying that they can check their records should be good enough
A cousin phoned vm and they said it would be a free installation
He got a bill for installation,tv and bb
When he called vm,they said that a free installation is for online orders only
He argued that he had been told by the person on the phone that the installation was free, and when they refused to budge,he told them that they should be able to check back on their records.
They waived the installation fee after that

i can remember the day when a verbal contract wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
