Default Question Me & Neighbour going 2 share subscription

Once Nag 3 hits town me and the neighbour have decided to share a subscription for the full package, Basically once I cancel mine we will run a splitter from his outside box and a cable into mine, He will order multiroom and give the other box to me but the problem I have is the internet and wondered how we will get around this as even with a wireless we cannot pick up a strong enough signal at the moment if the modem was in one house?

Its a simple ethernet cable, exactly the same as you connect your modem to your router with, just much longer. You could probably get 75-100 metres or so before you need to start worrying about repeaters.

Set it up like so:

As per the key, Red lines = Virgin Coax cables and Blue lines = CAT5e/Network/Ethernet cables.

It's important for simplicity reasons that the person with the modem has a Wireless ROUTER and the person who doesn't have the modem has a Wireless ACCESS POINT.

The cable running from the MODEM to the first person's ROUTER should plug into the WAN or INTERNET port on the back of the router - there should only be one of these.

The cable running from the ROUTER to the second person's ACCESS POINT should plug into on of the LAN or COMPUTER ports on the back of the router - there is usually about four of these to choose from, it won't matter which you use.

You can get cheap long network cables eBay, I recommend that you get an external grade cable for waterproof/UV damage reasons.
See here: 20M EXTERNAL BLACK CAT5E ETHERNET PATCH LEAD CABLE CAT5 on eBay (end time 01-Aug-10 01:13:24 BST)

There might be some problems with IP address clashes between the Router and Access point but you needn't worry about that unless it actually happens.

Hope that I've helped,
Any questions?
