Default Iphone 3gs

Evening ladies n gents, not too sure where to put this but i've got abit of trouble with my iphone. It won't boot up, it's stuck in recovery mode as far as i can understand. I plug it into my pc and it says 'iTunes has detected and iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes'. However if i hit restore it does the whole extrating software, verifying your phone with apple then the error 'The iPhone "The Iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (21). Then nothing happens, i've tried booting it up by holding the power off key and home for 10 seconds to try and boot it into DFU mode but I still get the same problem. It hasn't been jailbroken either but i'm out of idea's. Anyone any help? :/

1
Press-hold the Home button (big circle below the screen) and the Sleep/Wake button (on top of the iPhone) simultaneously

2
Continue holding both buttons (Ignore the "Slide to power off") until the iPhone shuts off and begins to restart.

3
You may let go when you see the silver Apple logo.

You have completed a hard reset successfully
