I have a normal sky box,the old one before sky plus.I want to upgrade my box to sky plus and I just happen to have a spear on that a friend gave me laying around the house.I heard that In order for me to upgrade my box, which sky quated me £30 installation fee and £59 pound for the box for them to come and do it.I would have to change the lnb to a lnb quad and run two wires to the new sky plus box and seeing my signals low were the dish hasen't been touched for the last 8 years and has come out of alignment with the satellite,I will have to line that up again because it's really annoying every 20 minutes a message being displayed that no signal is being recieved. So how would I go about linning the dish up again to fix this issue and what are the tools I need?
All so, Is it really as simple as changing the lnb and plugging in the box then in goes your card into the new box and there you go,or do I have to ring up sky and tell them I've upgraded my box myyself because I didn't want them ripping me off, would they still switch me over? thanks, |

Aligning the dish can be easy, providing you're patient, but it depends how the bolts are, as they need slightly loosening to gently adjust the dish to peak the signal.
The same with replacing your old LNB, with a quad, it's quite easy to do providing your dish is easily accessible and the collar can be undone. You state your dish has been untouched for 8 years so it might need something like WD40 to loosen all the components. Once everything is done you just telephone Sky, informing them that you have switched receivers, and they should pair your card with the new receiver. Are you planning on using the other receiver for multi room? |

Multi room is added to your subscription, as I don't view Sky you'll have to check their website for how much it costs, and if it's worth it.
You could always run an extra wire, from the quad LNB, and use it for the Free to View channels. |

However, the existing viewing card will have to be paired to the Sky+ digibox,in order to record. |
