info needed plz

hiya, i am very new to the cable box forums, i had a ntl box a few months ago and paid quite a bit of money on it then 6 weeks later it went off and the people who redo what they do with box were asking very silly money some of my freinds have chipped ntl cable boxs and some euro boxs etc, which go off from time to time, ntl more
my questions are, (as i no nothing about this box stuff but ok with pcs and there workings) what would i need to get to do these fun cards and other cards for cable boxs to say flash them myself so i could do it for my freinds cheaper than it is at the moment, what do you use to put info on cards and how do you get this info, i looked on the g mail thing but dont really understand what all the numbers and stuff mean, im going to read some bits on here and really could do with some help from some one who no,s his stuff, i do learn fast so any help is really needed thanks for reading
