Default Can I get Virgin cable?

Hi,

I am one of only two houses in my road that cannot have Virgin cable connected and they won't come out to do it for cost reasons I guess. However, when I moved in my house 4 years ago there was an NTL cable set up and the NTL cable run out of my house into the ground out in the front of the house.

My question is that if the previous owner had NTL and NTL/Virgin have merged then surely Virgin could rig me up? Admittedly Virgin would not have set it up in the first place and hence we would not be on their database but we would be on the NTL one that they merged with?

Thanks in advance,

Desperate for cable broadband

Why you sooooooo desperate for cable ????, Just get Sky, its swings and roundabouts about the cost. Only difference they advertise upto 20 meg broadband, when in fact you can only get 2, british law on advertising, dont you just love it. I am gonna start my own BB service and say upto 5,000,000 meg broadband, and that would be legal lol

oh dear, ignore Lacutas rant, lol.. seems he's upset about something... If you pay for 20mb you do get 20mb speed, you just dont get unlimited data allowance during peak hours, if you go over the fair use data allowance during peak hours you get your speed dropped to 2.5mb for a few hours..

Yea, if your house was cabled up before then Im sure it can be cabled up again.. I bet Virgins postcode thing is wrong.. But hey, why not try signing up using your house number and road name but instead use the same postcode as one of the nearby houses that have cable, let 'em come out and install, and then when done let Virgin know the correct postcode.. Just a thought..
:-)

nibblitz, your not far wrong, all I was saying if you go with any other BB service other than virgin, they always say upto 20 meg, when in fact you only get 2 , virgin are usually ok, if they say 10 meg, 10 meg is what you get. I just think its misleading that in big letters on the adverts are 20 meg, then in tiny letters are upto depending on how far you are from the hub. There you go nibblitz I am ranting again !!!! lol.

Virgin are lazy. They can't be bothered to connect you up. If they won't do it there's not much you can do. There's a whole estate near me that had analogue cable and they have washed their hands of it., Peeps are asking for Virgin digital, but they are not interested.

yea ok Lacutas, mis-read your post, you was referring to sky broadband.. ADSL "Upto" speeds, well, thats always been the way with ADSL, probably always will be.. Its a shame really that ADSL providers dont charge for what they can actually provide you with rather than what they can theoretically provide to somebody who fortunately lives within 100metres from the exhange.

Am desperate for faster cable as want 20mb and not 4mb which I am currently getting DSL. So is the NTL cable set up outside my house something that Virgin can now use? Nibblitz, you seem to think they can, does anybody else have an opinion on this? I will ring Virgin tomorrow and spend half an hour on their 0845 number to see what they think!!!!

BTW Nibblitz, Your idea is interesting but my post code does have cable just not my house number so can't use that trick!!!!!

wait a min, what dumb arse calls it virgin lol

its still NTL and Telewest networks with a name above the door.

if you have NTL cable at your home and on the wall, you already got all the cable you need? or did i read it wrong?

have they got your address like me as unserviceable? lol MUGS i pulled my own cable and had dodgy boxes for a year, then called them for 50 mb net

took 6 months to get a SPOTTER out and is now on the database as ok.

call them up say you got ntl cable here and if your address is un listed, ask them to send a spotter out

thats the same in tonbridge, 30 new houses were built just behind the castle and there is only phone lines in the cab, no catv lol as the brick paths are dated in 1600`s and not allowed to be dig up now
