If you can't get the drive out or don't feel confident enough to open the console then just send the whole console to him. Of course you'll have to bear the extra postage cost for him sending it back to you.
Drive on it's own shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes to do, I done one over the weekend and even though it was my first one things couldn't go smoother than Lucy Lu for me

Orderd the xbox on friday still haven't got it!
But its probably going to be a liteon 9xxxx drive, I'll see if I can get it out of the xbox without too much hassle, the whole xbox would be too heavy to post. |

Hi mate,
instructions to open your xbox are here - Xecuter Blaster360 - Worlds First External Xbox 360 Firmware & Game Dumping Tool you don't need the opening tools used there except for the torx 10 screwdriver, you can make keys to pop the case open with a dvd cake by cutting pieces from the side of it then lining them up with the notches on the back of the 360, mark and cut them to suit like in this picture. Google Image Result for http://www.biline.ca/X-Box/360/sm_tool_2.jpg it's not hard to do, good luck and take your time. matt. |

nice one mate,
make sure you connect to live and get all the updates before you flash it if you're going to use it online, and check all your games with abgx360. |

Had a PS3 for a long time, never the 360 before. The PS3 does/forces all the updates by itself when you try to do anything online.
I only have silver service on the xbox360, been online, but how do I make sure I got all the updates? It did do a small update when I signed up.. is that it? Ya, got abgx360 and burned my 1st disc already in anticipation!
