Dear everyone,

I have a rather frustrating situation which I hope that one of you satellite experts could help me with.

I have a Technomate T-8000 receiver. I bought it last November, and it was working perfectly - however a month ago when I turned it on one day I was greeted with the message "Ant. Shortage". No amount of fiddling would get it to work (turning off and on again, unplugging and re-plugging etc). At that point I presumed that "Ant. Shortage" meant that there was a "shortage", i.e a deficiency in the antenna, e.g not plugged in. I believed this because several of the onscreen text displays are written in rather dodgy English.

Anyway - I returned it to the dealer, who tested it and informed me that it was working fine. Obviously very frustrated, to have someone else tell me that it was working for them when it wasn't for me, I had no choice but to take it back and try again.

It was last night that I got it back, and plugged it in again.. and lo and behold, it was working. Although I was mystified as to what the problem could have been, I was just happy that it was working... until three hours later, while I was watching it, it shut down again with the same "Ant. Shortage" message. Damnit!

Today I did a bit more experimenting, and unplugged the input LNB altogether. I was interested to see that the "Ant. Shortage" error message had disappeared, and was replaced with a simple "check signal" message. With this, I realised that the "shortage" message actually meant that the box believed there was a SHORT CIRCUIT somewhere in the antenna cable.

Now - although it looks like the mystery has been solved, it is far from over. You see, I live in a block of flats with a shared satellite dish. Therefore if there was a short circuit in the master cable, then everyone's reception would be dead - but this is not the case. That means that either there is a local problem on my side of the wall, with my own cables, or the box really is playing up.

I have tested the cable from the wall to the box, and there is no short circuit there. That only leaves the actual wall socket. Now.. the wall socket has three outputs: satellite, terrestrial and digital radio. However there is only one cable input (the master cable from the wall). The master cable feeds into what I presume is a diplexer (triplexer?) box (yes, I looked it up).

Therefore I tried eliminating possibilities by taking out the splitter box, and touching the centre core of the master cable to the centre core of the TM-8000's input cable. The instant I did that, the "Ant. Shortage" error reappeared. However I do not know if this would be normal - given that this is the "unfiltered" master cable, and it's possible that the "short circuit" is simply the connection between the loop of the terrestreal/radio aerials.

I have a multimeter (not a satellite finder one), where I can measure the resistance between points. So what I want to know is, what should the resistance be between the central core and the outer shielding of a properly-functioning LNB cable? Should there be infinite resistance? Or should there be some connection there? At present I can detect a connection - so if there should be infinite resistance then I can confirm there is a short somewhere beyond my control. If not, and it is working perfectly, then maybe there IS a problem with my box after all.

Unfortunately I do not have another one to test the signal with.

Any advice please?

Dear all,
i am trying to build signal meter using a CAN TUNER kindly check the attachments. i can access the tuner using i2c using pic micro controller.
i need an answer for the following questions please..

1) what i know is that any tuner consist of two ICs one for the tuning and the other for the demodulation, so if i want to build only a signal meter (i.e give the tuner a frequency to lock on and wait for its response and once it locks on it, i extract from it the signal strength and signal quality.
do i have to access the demodulation ic also to do the above or it is just can be done using the tuner ic?

2) what is the usage of the diseqc_in and diseqc_out ?

3) in order to tell the lnb that the incoming frequency is horizontal or vertical the tuner must switch between 13 and 18 volts..
is this voltage is applied to the rf cable directly which connected to pin 2 (lnb_A) ( kindly check the datasheet in the attachment).

Many Thanks for your attention
waiting your prompt reply

I'm amazed that they have sacked Kenny Dalgleish, even though Liverpool's league form was poor, this seemed mainly down to reaching 2 cup finals, and gaining a place in the Europa League next season.

I wonder what the American owners expected, given the limited finance, compared to some other teams, City and Chelsea, and the limited turnover due to an old, small ground.

To get a place, in the top 4, Liverpool need to compete with Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and now Newcastle, as well as other clubs.

If Liverpool fail to get in the top 4 next season will they sack the next manager?
I wonder if this is more about how badly the Suarez incident was handled, especially in the media?
