Pioneer Elite PRO-940HD Plasma TV

The Pioneer Elite PRO-940HD Plasma TV does not come cheap, but, its something that would take your breath away. This 42-inch plasma TV produces brilliant picture quality enclosed in a 1024 x 768 resolution that leaves videophiles gasping for air. Of course, all these high-end features and performance comes with a very steep price tag. But that is something that you have to pay – a compromise – if you want to experience the ultimate enjoyment in viewing experience.

The unit weighs approximately 70 pounds and measures 41-inches wide and 4.5-inches deep without the 11-inch wide stand. It is elegantly packaged, enclosed in a jet black bezel with matching stand. The unit includes hand-grips molded into the back of the chassis to enable maneuvering fairly easy. Control panels are strategically located on the right side behind the screen with only the silver Elite logo at center and the power indicator at the bottom left cluttering the view up front.

Every step of the way, the PRO-940HD offers everything you expect (and need) in an HDTV. The unit sports several connectivity inputs that will maximize your viewing options. This constitutes the standard AV connectors, HDMI, Component, Composite and S-Video inputs. Then as an additional feature and for easier access, it includes extra sets of Component and Composite inputs that are mounted on the left side of the monitor.

The Pioneer PRO-940HD Plasma TV is beefed up with a pair of integrated 13W speakers with SRS(WOW) technology, including SRS Surround, TruBass and Focus for superior audio quality. But for those who would like to hook the TV to a more robust and high-performing audio system, you can do so through either a digital optical or an analog stereo output. There’s even a Sub woofer output.

As for its performance, not much can be said about it as it is almost perfect. No more setup is needed as you can just plug it in and play it. The default settings are already very good that you will hesitate to play around with its picture controls. The PRO-940HD unit includes tools such as CTI (Color Transient Improvement), Intelligent Color, and Dynamic Range Expander that optimizes picture quality ensuring excellent video performance. You can play around and do some tweaks to your set, but if you find yourself in trouble, you can always push the reset button which safely reverts it back to its default settings.

Watching high-definition videos on the Pioneer Elite PRO-940HD is such a delightful experience. The set is exceptionally good at noise reduction and maintaining detail. 1080i videos are very smooth with no signs of jagged edges. The PRO-940HD also produced a slightly softer image that is more film-like in appearance, with vivid and vibrant colors that reproduced skin tones very well.

Overall, the PRO-940HD is an exceptional product, with all the top-notch HD performance, combined with a wide variety of built-in features. However, all of this excellence comes with a price – and a steep one at that. But if you want the best and are willing to pay for it, the Pioneer Elite PRO-940HD plasma television is an easy decision.
