kdl-52v5100The 52-inch KDL-52V5100 from Sony is a simple TV. It is encased in a glossy black bezel that gives it a classic and stylish look. It has a very simple yet elegant design.

For connection, this set comes packed with the latest selections. It has 4 HDMI ports, optical audio out for surround sound systems and a USB port. These connections are placed in spaces which are conveniently accessible. The USB connection allows for photo and music play back stored on a connected USB storage device.

The audio quality from this set’s speakers are also very good. Of course, for the ultimate audio experience, fans would prefer a separate sound system. But for everyday use, its built-in speakers will suffice.

In color management, that is where the KDL-52V5100 excels. Black levels on this set is very good. This contributed to a very good contrast ratio, so users can see clear distinctions between dark and light on the display. For an LCD HDTV, one of the most important aspect is its black level. But with this set, you’re covered.

Another important aspect in choosing an HDTV is its motion performance. In this category, the KDL-52V5100 had problems. Although it boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, there’s still blurring and artifacting evident with fast moving scenes. 120Hz refresh rate is touted to significantly improve motion performance.

Another potential problem with the KDL-52V5100 is the limited viewing angle. This isn’t a television you’ll want to put into a room with seats at an oblique angle to the screen. Speaking of the screen it’s very reflective, so be careful about where you place your lighting fixtures in the room.
