ViewSonic N3760wViewSonic, known for their sturdy computer monitors, can definitely make excellent TV’s as well. A living testament for that feat is the N3760w. This 37-inch LCD HDTV performed highly enough so as to satisfy consumer needs. It is also good for the budget as it is an inexpensive unit that budget-conscious fans of digital TV will definitely love. As a quick run through, the set gives great color reproduction and showed true to life representation in a wide color pallet including the sometimes troublesome flesh tones. It is very easy to set up with passable amount of options and features.

As far as performance goes, the N3760w is one of the best performer for an LCD TV of this size when compared to most televisions in the market. It leaves its mark on producing pleasing and natural skin tones, avoiding the excessively pink fair skin and purple-tinged dark skin that some TVs are prone to creating. With standard definition sources, the TV also did exceptionally well. Colors in produced were vivid, with minimal (but still present) pixelations. The N3760w also performed admirably in DVD tests. It gives out great saturations and excellent detail. But most of all, the N3760w excelled really well when exposed under the glare of bright lights, showing vivid colors even if all lights in a room is turned on. It has good and natural overall color, quality, contrast, and brightness.

The N3760w sports a native resolution of 1,366 X 768 pixels. The TV’s dark-colored bezel and frame have a matte finish in order to reduce ambient-light reflections. The power indicator light on the front is behind a piece of tinted plastic, so it’s unobtrusive. Accessories included a single composite video/stereo audio cable, a power cord, and a remote control. A ViewSonic N3760w 37-inch LCD HDTVmultilingual manual and setup poster complete the list of in-the-box contents. As for its connectivity, the set gives us fair number of options to choose from. At the rear end of the TV, there is a good selection of analog A/V inputs including a pair of component video connections and a pair of S-Video inputs. An additional A/V input block centered on the rear of the display (facing downwards) provides VGA, HDMI, and RF video connections. One of the two RF connections is dedicated to (unencrypted) cable TV tuning. The other RF input handles analog (NTSC) and digital (ATSC) broadcast tuning. My concern with the N3760′s A/V input selection is the single digital video input (HDMI). An HDTV at this price should provide at least two.

The TV also comes in with built-in speakers. Most of our expectations concerning built-in speakers are really low, but the ViewSonic’s delivered especially weak sound, which is a drawback to this otherwise all-around set. There are times when the audio sounded murky in what is supposed to be an audio-rich scene. There are other times when dialogues are drowned out the background sound effects, producing stuttering gallops that faded in and out. And when the strings-and-brass-laden soundtrack began to crescendo, this weakness became even more pronounced. The N3760w definitely needs external audio to complement its fine video.

But all in all, with its good combination of price and quality, the ViewSonic N3760w 37-inch LCD HDTV certainly has a lot to offer.
