Topfield TF7700 HSCI is a winner

by BGonaSTICK

The superb new TF7700 HSCI from Topfield is now widely available to buy online. It’s a top quality high-definition receiver which fully supports the MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 and DVB standards. It’s available in two finishes - black and silver

If you’re looking for an easy to use trouble-free HD receiver, then this one is definitely worth considering. It has logical easy to use menus for both channel flipping, searching, organising and editing.

It has a terrific display on the front panel that shows the channel name as well as the channel number - a nice touch. This area also displays limited details of the menu structure when in use.

The firmware can be upgraded via the USB port (which is a welcome feature) and the receiver can be used to view the FTA BBC HD transmissions from Astra 2 at 28.2E amongst others.

From various reports within the satellite community, it appears that the 7700 works with the older Dragon and T-rex CAMs, plus the Diablo and T-Rex 4.6 CAMs too.

Features:

# Supports MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 and fully DVB compliant

# 2 Common Interfaces for CONAX, CRYPTO, IRDETO, NAGRA, SECA & VIACCESS

# DiSEqC 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and USALS (DiSEqC 1.3)

# Will store up to 5000 channels (TV and Radio)

# Multilingual audio support

# Multilingual menu text support

# Service list editing

# Favourite service list editing

# True-colour On-Screen Display (OSD)

# Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for on-screen service information

# Subtitles supported

# Teletext supported by VBI insertion and software emulation

# Parental lock facility by service and program event

# Firmware upgrade by USB 2.0

# Firmware and data transfer from receiver to receiver

# Exciting games embedded

# S/PDIF for digital audio or Dolby AC-3 bitstream output

# USB 2.0 supported for fast PC interface

# MP3 (MPEG-1 Layer 3) decoding

# VFD Display for service information

# Component (YPbPr) output

During testing by forum member good2talk the receiver was found to auto switch between 576i and 1080i over HDMI and component and even the SD channels look fantastic.

Good Points:

# Picture is brilliant (even SD channels)
# Sound is brilliant
# Fast Scanning
# Adding a new transponder is easy
# Works well with various multi-CAMs
# Firmware updatable via USB pen drive
# Solid quality receiver

Bad Points:

# When using HDMI cable, RGB is not available on SCART.
# The remote has tiny keys and (with the black colour option at least) it’s difficult to see what you’re doing when the room light is switched off.

The latest firmware for this receiver can be downloaded from the manufacturer at www.i-topfield.com

With the minor issues and teething troubles that have affected this receiver thus far (of interest to many, the problems in scanning the Premiere channels, for example), this download is well worth doing.

The receiver is currently selling for around £250.
