Microsoft has announced the relaunch of ‘Microsoft IPTV’, its Internet television platform, as ‘Microsoft Mediaroom’.

The announcement was made at the NXTcomm conference in Chicago, where Microsoft said that is adding the ability to share personal media, such as images, music and photos, to its IPTV offering.

Mediaroom will also allow applications to access the Internet without going through a web browser.

Viewing capabilities will be enhanced with dynamic MultiView, which allows viewers to see multiple channels or camera angles on one screen.

Microsoft has also released a new Mediaroom Application Development toolkit which enables IPTV application developers to build video-on-demand portals.

Microsoft’s IPTV platform is currently deployed by AT&T and several other IPTV operators in Europe and Asia.
