Skype 3.5 includes video-sharing service

by Jan Harris

VoIP company Skype has secured deals with Dailymotion (www.dailymotion.com) and Metacafe (www.metacafe.com), allowing its users to share video content.

Skype has just released the latest version of its software - Skype™ 3.5 for Windows - which allows users to download videos from Dailymotion and Metacafe and add them to their online Skype profile or share them in online Skype chats.

Skype profiles, or ‘moods’ are growing in popularity with Skype users because they provide a personalised way of sharing things with friends and family.

The company’s focus on constantly enriching Skype with additional services for users has led to the number of registered users worldwide growing from 100 million to over 200 million in just 12 months.

Other enhancements provided by Skype 3.5 for Windows include the ability to transfer incoming calls to another person or a group of people on Skype. Skype Pro subscribers can also transfer incoming calls to a landline or mobile phone.

The latest version of Skype also includes auto redial. If a number being called is engaged, Skype will automatically redial it every two minutes, until the call is answered.

Skype, which is now owned by eBay, was founded by Joost inventors Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom.
