Arcor, the German subsidiary of Vodafone, is planning to launch its Arcor-Digital TV service into 51 German cities in December.
The service will include 110 TV channels, together with a video on-demand service.
Arcor will become Germany’s third IPTV service provider, joining HanseNet - an Telecom Italia subsidiary - and Deutsche Telekom. The increased competition will help to increase awareness of IPTV in the country, which has been slow to start when compared with other European markets.
Arcor already has a broadband video offering via its video on-demand portal providing content from Spiegel TV, Discovery Channel and the BBC. Adding the IPTV element will give it a rounder content service portfolio and bring its TV and video offerings directly to the TV screen.
