Bebo, the social networking site, has secured agreements with a number of media companies, including CBS, MTV, BBC, Channel 4 and BSkyB, providing access to thousands of hours of programming.

Smaller media companies are also involved, including Next New Networks, Crackle, JibJab, SumoTV, FabChannel, Last.fm, and Premium TV.

Bebo users will be able to access the content through their Bebo profiles.

Users of Bebo’s Open Media can customise their page by changing the skin to show their favourite TV series, and add video clips and TV episodes to their profile.

When users select a channel they receive suggestions for new content or similar programming that they might be interested in based on their selection.

Bebo does not charge content providers to add content to the Open Media platform. Media companies can distribute content via their own video players such as the BBB’s iPlayer. An advertising message is displayed before a clip is viewed.

Bebo provides high-level media capabilities which allow users to use media and entertainment as a means of self-expression. The site has 40 million users.
