Office 2008 for Mac released

Apple have released Office 2008 for Mac, covering the standard range of licences, such as student/home edition, standard, and a special edition.

The Apple version of Office 2008 contains Mac versions of the standard Windows Office versions of Word 2008, Excel 2008, and Powerpoint 2008 – as well as Mac-specific applications such as Entourage for email, and Messenger for Mac.

Those of use migrating from Windows to Apple will possible find it something of a let down, though – there’s no Access or Publisher, and no Outlook, either, which will make migration outside of Bootcamp more difficult.

Still, it continues to show that, in certain areas at least, an Apple can take the slack for Windows users looking to move to the Apple platform.

However, with a price tag on the Office 2008 for Mac comparable to the Windows version, but with fewer applications, it may not yet be enough to thoroughly entice Windows users to the Apple platform.
