Calls for BBC to pull out of Eurovision

by David Allen

The Eurovision song contest seems to have been on the BBC for a long while recently, first there was the choosing of the song and then the heats and semi finals etc, but what for?

The hope of the UK lay in the hands of someone who should be experienced at reality TV, after all he did lose the X factor.

But coming last has sparked a row, there has even been a motion tabled by an MP which if passed would mean that the BBC would have to withdraw their funding of the contest. This year the BBC contributed £173,000.

But despite all of these claims, as a TV show the programmes are a success drawing in 9.3 million viewers which by anyone’s standards is very good.

There is also the fact that the UK has won the Eurovision song contest five or six times, so to say it is a failure may not be totally accurate.
