BBC Trust reprimands Top Gear

by David Allen

It may have been shown during the last series of Top Gear, but the BBC always manages to get through their work load, no matter how long it takes.

Complaints about the behaviour of Top Gear presenters are becoming more frequent; this time the complaints were about drinking and driving, well in actual fact drinking while driving.

It was during the “Polar Special” episode of the show when presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May were seen to be drinking gin and tonics while driving a purpose built snow truck to the North Pole.

Although the complaints were upheld by the BBC Trust, the programme makers said that no laws had been broken due to the fact they were being filmed in international waters, where no actual drinking and driving laws exist.

The BBC Trust believe that these antics could give out the wrong message about drinking and driving to younger people, especially as the programme was shown before the watershed.
