UKTV goes for a rebrand

by David Allen

There has been a lot of planning in the background of UKTV recently and now they have announced why - the UKTV branding is going to disappear sometime soon and, as a result of this change, three channels within the group are going to be renamed.

Once completed, UKTV Gold+1 will become “Watch” and this channel will be showing high profile dramas.

UKTV Gold is to become “GOLD”, which will have a new headline, “Go On Laughing Daily”, as it will be the home of comedy and light entertainment.

The final channel to get the makeover treatment is UKTV Drama; this will become a crime orientated channel called “Alibi”

These changes will add to the overall development of the ten channels which form the group.

The final group, Lifestyle, will follow suit towards the end of 2009.

The idea of showing repeated programmes has changed recently.

Before, it was just old TV, but as VoD has developed, the chance to watch older programmes has caught on, with many viewers now opting to view programmes at their leisure.
