Westinghouse has entered the market for inexpensive HDTVs. The Westinghouse TX-42F430S is one of their models meant as a stepping stone towards this endeavor. Similar to AOC’s Envision series, Westinghouse meant for this set to produce good-quality images, omitting the advanced features and sophisticated design that is common to most HDTVs and higher-end models in the market.

This plan was carried out rather nicely by the TX-42F430S. Tests shows that the set indeed diplayed very nice images. We can even go as far as to compare its video performance to those higher-end albeit expensive models in the market. The only drawback is that the TX-42F430S tends to skew toward red in flesh tones.

As mentioned, the Westinghouse TX-42F430S was built as a stripped down, inexpensive model. However, its worth mentioning the its built-in speakers produced very good sound even when the volume was maxed out. Given that Westinghouse lowered our expectation with this model, this plus in performance can be considered as a bonus for consumers.

Several pluses can be had from the TX-42F430S. You have its on-screen display which is easily navigable via its remote control. In here, users can find useful settings to tweak such as image and sound adjustment.

The Westinghouse TX-42F430S performs well as an entry-level HDTV. It lacks style, personality, and extra features such as a functional USB port. But, it was meant to be that way. Some people might question the wisdom for this design, but to others, this is sufficient.
