TechWatch hacked yesterday by Russian spammers

Sincere apologies all if you found the Techwatch news section acting up yesterday.

Some bloody Russian hacker can managed to edit a key file on the site, which then redirected visitors to the news section to a dodgy “PC security check” site called power-antivirus-2009.com.

All the site software is now fully upgraded, and additionally the file involved has been looked down to prevent further editing by unauthorised users.

Overall, because it was just a redirect being used, and an affiliate link at that, there was no malware uploaded to Techwatch.co.uk which could have infected readers, and no site data was accessed.

Even though the hack was only present a short time before being removed, I appreciate it looked bad, might have worried some people, and for that you have my sincere apologies.

The site is now clean and I sincerely hope we don’t see this again.

In the meantime, I’m blocking access to the site from Russia, because the place is just too damn lawless when it comes to the internet.
