Swansea first place in Wales to switchover

After waiting for a while, viewers in Wales have finally been told how and when the digital switchover will take place.

The first area to have the new digital signal switched on will be Swansea, and it is going to take place during August 2009.

It has been anticipated that the old analogue signal will be turned off right across Wales during 2010, but the signal will be turned off as the switchover moves around the area.

After each switch off, anyone who has not switched over to digital TV, by either changing their TV or by purchasing one of the set top boxes that are on the market, will no longer be able to watch the TV at all.

The first transmitter to be turned off in Wales will be the Kivey Hill transmitter on the 12th August 2009.
