Mobile Broadband is a threat to ISPs

August 19, 2008

If the popularity of mobile broadband continues to grow as it has done over the last year of so, traditional fixed line internet services providers could end up in with a massive financial hole where their subscriber income used to be.

In a recent survey conducted by YouGov, it has been found that one in eight mobile broadband subscribers have chosen the dongle instead of the fixed line, or have actually replaced their fixed line broadband connection with mobile broadband.

As if that was not bad enough for the ISPs the survey found that a further five per cent have taken up mobile broadband while on a fixed line contract, with the intention of cancelling the ISP service within the next year.

ISPs do have the advantage over mobile broadband providers, but they need to find out why their customers are switching and do something about it, if they want to stop their customers from jumping ship.
