Digital TV switchover timetable revealed

by David Allen

The north west of England has just over a year to sort its digital viewing out, because as from the 9th November 2009 the transmitter located at Winter Hill will begin the switchover process by turning off the analogue signal.

The areas affected by the Winter Hill transmitter will be Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire and north Staffordshire.

The first channel to go will be BBC2, the other channels will quickly follow this until the process has been completed, and this is expected to be around the beginning of December 2009.

Households in these areas will need to either buy a set top box, a digital TV or invest in satellite in order to continue to see their favourite TV programmes.
