Booking feature for iPlayer

by David Allen

At the moment users of the BBC iPlayer can only download TV programmes that have already been shown and for only seven days worth of content.

However, things are about to change at the BBC when it comes to how the iPlayer can operate.

The idea now is to allow users of the iPlayer to book programmes in advance, even before they have been shown on the BBC channels and then they would have up to thirty days to watch the downloaded programmes.

This new process follows a BBC Trust consultation, which lasted, twenty eight days. Their conclusion is that the pre booking feature can be made available to internet users, but those users who are on cable will need to wait.

The iPlayer pre booking feature will be reviewed by the BBC Trust in six months time.
