BT and ITV to announce catch up deal

November 17, 2008

A deal between ITV and BT will be announced today, where BT Vision will become the first platform to show the ITV archive and catch up service.

Until now only the X Factor, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been made available for online viewers after they have been shown on TV first.

BT Vision already broadcasts the catch up services from the BBC, Channel Four and Five, so it is only natural that ITV should be joining the rest of the main players on BT Vision.

Although having said that, ITV are believed to be behind schedule to meet their targets for online revenues.

However for BT Vision customers this service is not going to be free as they will need to pay for a BT Vision replay package, this is charged at £3 per month and includes access to the ITV library.

There is another potential outlet for ITV and the other main channels, Project Kangaroo that is still waiting for clearance from the competition commission, before it gets the go ahead.
