Now is the time to change website passwords

January 13, 2009

There is no doubt that many people who visit websites that need login details, often use the same username and password for access to all of their sites.

This can include banking and other financial websites too.

However, it is time that this practice changed, in order to protect personal and business security, according to Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos.

The gathering of personal data is bad enough, but allowing people to gain access to websites like personal banking is just too careless.

Some experts believe that users should create new and different usernames and passwords for all of the websites that they use.

Identity theft is one of the most worrying things that can happen to someone.

Not only is it theft, it is also a violation of the user’s privacy, which could have been prevented with carefully selected usernames and passwords.
