MAC codes still a problem for customers

February 10, 2009

Reports say that by switching their broadband providers some customers can see significant savings, which in this day and age has to be a good thing.

However, it seems that switching internet service providers may not be as easy as customers think.

In order for a switch to take place, the customer has to obtain a Migration Access Code or MAC Code and, according to the regulator Ofcom, this must be provided within five working days.

Nevertheless, according to a recent report forty one per cent of broadband users looking to switch providers have experienced some sort of problem, and for twenty seven per cent this wait has been for two weeks or longer.

Around eighty six per cent of broadband customers could save money by switching provider, but the rule that is supposed to make this switch easier is in fact keeping customers where they are.
