European HD viewers to triple by 2013

February 11, 2009

Throughout Europe there are currently around sixty million households with HD enabled televisions, but research is showing that in just over two years this figure is set to almost double to a hundred and sixteen million homes, which is over half of all homes in Europe.

In the report “HDTV in Europe, Key Economics & Prospects to 2018,” the forecast is that these figures are set to soar up to two hundred and twenty million HD enabled television set throughout Europe by 2018.

This is great news for pay for TV broadcasters like BSkyB and free satellite providers such as Freesat, who are relying on the increased use of HD TV within the home to generate an interest for viewers to switch over to these services.
