In an effort to raise funds, the struggling broadcaster ITV may be considering selling its lucrative Freeview slots that are currently being rented out to other broadcasters such as Five, QVC and Discovery.
ITV is suffering from a reduction in advertising revenues as a result of the recession.
This cash crisis has already taken its toll on several of the broadcaster’s top TV programmes like the long running show Heartbeat.
The Freeview slots are rented through the ITV division SDN where, it is believed, the sale could be worth something in the region of £200 million.
However should this sale go through, ITV will lose the income generated from SDN, which is estimated to be around £33 million.
