It has been a long time since Microsoft first demonstrated the Surface technology, to what has to be said were mixed reviews.
However, at the CeBit Trade Show in Germany the company announced that it will begin to sell the touchscreen device in the UK this year.
With this technology there is no need for a mouse or even a keyboard.
To operate Surface the user will just use their hands to touch the screen or make gestures to control the device.
Surface offer photo, email and mapping functionality. It runs on Vista and supports 10/100 Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 for Windows Mobile handset interaction.
In the US this technology has been used in the healthcare and finance industries and the company has been receiving positive feedback.
Nevertheless, deploying Surface in the UK may not be as easy.
As the cost is an estimated £10,000 it is unlikely that businesses will be able to fit it into their already stretched budgets at the moment.
