LG 50PG30 Plasma HDTV

The LG 50PG30 Plasma HDTV is a surprise when we talk about HDTV prices. It’s not really that expensive if we compare it to similar plasma sets in the market. But still, it’s a tad expensive when compared to LCD’s, but that’s already expected. Aside from the price, the 50PG30 Plasma also sports a stylish look. Its design and range of inputs will attract a lot of first time plasma HDTV buyers.

In tests, the LG 50PG30 performed very well. It’s not without fault though, but overall performance is very acceptable. As you’d expect from a plasma, viewing content at different angles looked pretty good. The 50PG30 also did a very good job with foreground and background detail. Some negative characteristics of this set are motion blur and fuzziness. Also, there’s something wrong with this sets’ rendering of facial tones. Images appeared flat, with colours that didn’t pop.

This Plasma HDTV is also very easy to set up with lots of connections available. It has conveniently placed inputs and a setup wizard that asks whether to optimize for home use or store use. It has a total of three HDMI ports that would satisfy any users needs.

The 50PG30s’ Quick Menu offers even easier access to common options such as the set’s picture and sound modes. And the selections that pop up when you press the input button give top priority to sources that are currently sending a signal to the TV.

But the 50PG30 lacks a number of extra features. It has no picture-in-picture, and no USB or SD Card multimedia capabilities. The minimalist remote doesn’t glow in the dark, isn’t programmable; and can control only VCR or DVD players that support LG’s SimpLink (HDMI CEC) interface.

As a pretty good TV at a very low price, LG’s 50PG30 qualifies as a bargain.
