Astra beams into every other home

March 25, 2009

SES Astra satellite has announced that it is sending digital and analogue signals down to over a hundred and twenty million households throughout Europe, which works out at about half of the homes in Europe.

The largest amount growth has been seen in the UK, France and Ukraine.

Digital satellite has seen significant growth during 2008 with an increase of over six million to forty seven million.

This works out at around three quarters of the entire digital satellite network.

Households with satellite are three times as likely to be digitised than those households with cable.

Astra is currently the largest provider of HD services with seventy channels being distributed to nearly two million homes in Europe.

However, the UK is the leading provider of HD channel content.
