Conficker planning April fool’s joke

March 25, 2009

Computer users should be aware that on the 1st April security experts believe that the Conficker Worm or Downadup is set to become active.

It is the “C” version of the worm that is attracting attention and it is believed that there could millions of machines infected around the world primed to launch on April Fool’s Day.

What will happen is not exactly known, but normally it will attack a major website or social networking site through a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, or by simply deleting the data held on infected computers.

But then again this is April Fool’s Day and the whole thing could just be a practical joke, which would be a relief to many computer users.

Yet with the eyes of the internet security world on Downanup it is unlikely that a massive attack could take place.
