Project Canvas to offer free catch up TV

by David Allen

At the IPTV World Forum being held in London, all eyes were on the man in charge of bringing the latest BBC project to life, as he addressed the delegates on the development of Project Canvas.

Richard Halton is the BBC’s programme director for IPTV, and he has been spending a lot of time reassuring the industry that this latest project will respect the current industry standards.

Project Canvas aims to bring together free to air broadcasters, and offer them the opportunity to compete with the pay TV sector, such as Sky TV, Virgin Media, BT Vision and Tiscali.

Canvas wants to offer on demand services from the likes of 4oD, BBC iPlayer and ITV Player through free to air digital services like Freeview and Freesat.
