InfoGin improves mobile browsing experience

by David Masters

InfoGin this week announced a major update to its Intelligent Mobile Platform (IMP) mobile browsing service.

Already used by network operators around the world, IMP converts online content into a format easily accessible on mobile handsets.

The 8.4 release of IMP includes a number of significant updates: automatic multimedia conversion; a “write once, deliver to many” service for developers; comprehensive device coverage; and website sharing.

Automatic multimedia conversion converts video or multimedia content into a handset friendly codec, so more multimedia is accessible using a mobile handset.

“Write Once, Deliver to Many” allows mobile developers to create software once, then ship it for multiple devices without having to rewrite code.

InfoGin’s device database has been updated to cater for over 9,000 mobile devices.

Website sharing allows mobile users to share their favourite websites - giving network operators a data mine of favourite sites.

Other updates include accelerated page formatting, optimised sources usage, load balancing, and image processing.

Eran Wyler, InfoGin CEO, said: “Recent consumer expectation to surf the Internet on mobile devices in the same way as on a desktop has left both operators and content owners facing their biggest challenge to date.

“For operators, the enhancements provide a quantum leap in their ability to expand their Web services and enable mobile users to surf rich content from the Web on any handset.

“For the content community, the enhancements provide the ability to maintain their creativity with no limits and create new, engaging content for any mobile device, at a fraction of the time.”
