40% of teens hack social networking sites

April 6, 2009

A new breed of UK hacker is stalking the internet according to security experts.

These are teenagers whose aim is to hack into the profiles of members of social networks.

The figures are quite stunning - it is estimated that around forty per cent of teenagers have hacked into members’ profiles on these sites.

According to the security company Trend Micro which conducted the survey, around a third of these teenagers would hack for cash if it were offered.

It is boys who are more likely to be tempted to hack a social networking profile.

However, surprisingly it is girls who are more likely to attempt to get into online shopping accounts or even bank accounts.

What this shows it that teenagers, as they begin to use the internet, see nothing wrong with hacking.
