Satellite TV via mobile phone coming

by David Allen

It will not be long before satellite TV is available on mobile phones, and for some people this will sound like heaven but for others it could be the opposite.

However, due to increased interest from broadcasters, the Immarsat and Solaris projects are in line to be chosen for a European Commission award that will be free of costs apart from those involved in setting the project up.

The chipmaker Qualcomm has already purchased a section of the UK spectrum, which will allow it to launch its own mobile TV network.

The company has carried out testing with BSkyB which currently broadcasts news and sporting events to the UK’s mobile providers.

BSkyB has to be at the forefront of this technology as it rolls out, just to keep its customer base intact, otherwise they could be danger of seeing customers switch to mobile satellite.
