BBC2 switched off in the West Country

The digital switchover was supposed to herald a better television service, including more channels, provided that the viewer was prepared and had obtained the equipment necessary to receive digital television.

However sometimes the best plans do not quite work out, and the switchover in the West Country has meant that around fifteen hundred homes in the Torbay and South Devon areas are now without BBC2.

Following the switchover, around 130,000 households in the West Country are receiving a full digital service, but the households without BBC2 did not change their equipment for some reason.

Despite all of the advertising that the government has been putting out, the message did not get through to these households and the first stage of switchover began with the BBC2 signal being turned off.
