Sky Arts goes to the theatre

May 1, 2009

Sky Arts is claiming to be the first broadcaster to make a documentary that goes behind the scenes of a major west end theatre.

Theatreland will be made up of eight thirty minutes episodes.

It will be produced by West Park Pictures and will focus on the Theatre Royal Haymarket as it prepares to put on Samuel Beckett’s ‘Waiting for Godot’.

The stars of the show are Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Simon Callow and Ronald Pickup.

The series starts with the arrival of Sean Mathias, the theatre’s new artistic director, and will follow him over three months as the theatre prepares for the show’s opening night.

This is first of what Sky Arts hopes will be a series of programmes following the theatre, with a second series possibly covering another production during the summer.
