Sky Sports boss throws in the towel

by David Allen

In twenty years Vic Wakeling must have seen it all.

He was around when it all started and now the BSkyB managing director of sport and news is planning to retire.

He was the head of Sky Sports for fifteen years and was responsible for most of the Premier League football coverage for all of that time.

In fact, he organised the biggest coup in football history by snatching the Premier League rights from the grasp of rival broadcasters.

How different sports broadcasting would have been if ITV had got the rights rather than Sky Sports.

The vacant position at Sky Sports will be taken over by Barney Francis who is currently working as an executive producer and has more recently been involved in Sky Sports coverage of the UEFA Champions League.
