BSkyB challenging Project Canvas

by David Allen

The satellite broadcaster BSkyB has been testing the market’s need for the BBC led project Canvas, saying that the project is incomplete and has possible security issues, indicating that Canvas has been devised without taking everything into consideration.

BSkyB claims that the on demand service provided by the BBC, ITV and BT is an IP based platform yet recently the BBC announced that it would be looking to build the service onto the Freeview and Freesat platforms too, but without explaining how this will be done.

There is also a lack of detail on how the electronic programme guide will work or how is will look.

These points may seem trivial matters, but when they are all put together it seems that BSkyB is pushing for further scrutiny of Project Canvas before it has even got going.
