Setanta closed to new customers

by David Allen

The satellite sports broadcaster, Setanta, just cannot stay out of the news these days.

As the vultures fly around overhead, visitors to the Setanta website, who may have been interested in watching the England game tonight, are being turned away.

There are three pages to sign up on, one for Sky viewers, one for Freeview viewers, and one for online with Setanta i.

Any customer looking to subscribe to anyone of these services will be presented with a “Page not found” message.

There are issues surrounding the existing football contracts which could see other broadcasters, such as ITV, having to come up with some serious cash, as they have second rights on some of the games.

As for Sky Sports, it is probably in the best position to scoop up the matches, but the regulator Ofcom will probably have to look into that.
