While most people may be excited that the SmartphoneSmartphone is now available for retail purchase, those looking for an upgrade may want to pause for a second before purchasing it, as a rumour is circulating that later in the year a less costly ‘N97 Mini’ may become available.
A moderator on Vodafone Ireland’s open forum created the uproar that followed the release of the N97 by explaining that the network would not carry the Nokia 97 because it felt the N97 mini was more affordable and would be better for its customer base.
Despite the large amount of questions that the comment garnered, as people quickly asked for a clear cut answer as to whether the mini would be available or not, Vodafone Ireland refused to comment on the post and quickly removed it from the message board.
Yet an article in the Irish Times newspaper said that actually O2, 3 Ireland, and Meteor plan to carry the mini N97 but all three declined to furnish a price range or an actual launch date.
While the phone carriers are staying quiet about the details, it is interesting to note that they are not denying the validity of a possible mini N97.
