Previous reports that there has been a deal between the Scottish Premier League (SPL), Sky Sports and the new sports satellite broadcaster ESPN is not as signed and sealed as everyone first thought, in fact far from it.
It turns out that SPL rivals, Celtic and Rangers, may be interested in mounting a bid for the SPL broadcasting rights themselves, which would be a blow for both Sky Sports and ESPN.
The clubs from Glasgow are said to be disappointed at the reduced offer from Sky Sports and ESPN.
This was for £65 million over five years, which is around half the amount agreed with the collapsed Irish Satellite broadcaster Setanta.
It seems that Sky Sports and ESPN are going to have to dig a little deeper to secure the SPL broadcasting rights.
